Back in the 60's I used to prepare my own taxes. One year I figured I owed almost a thousand dollars so I decided to have a tax preparer look at it. He came up with a refund of several hundred dollars. Not a lot of money??? It is was when I was making less than $8,000 a year. Needless to say I have been using a qualified tax preparer ever since.

Happy New Year! I, too, had those "trusted" financial advisors that I rarely saw. And when I saw them, I was never really clear on what was happening with my investments either. Needless to say, I also feel blessed to have found your expertise, Bryan. Thank you for your guidance and here's to a joyous 2011!

P.S. I love to read...especially when it comes to experiences of a fellow teacher! I will definitely pick up a copy of Mr. K's book:)

Thank you for your "plug" of the book that I wrote. I have had many wonderful, encouraging comments. It's there for all to read: young teachers, parents and students of all ages.
Thank you for being my financial advisor. I had a similar incident way back with a "trusted" CPA. He let me down. I was, believe it or not, desperate to find another since I had been with this man for 25 years. He knew me like a book. Along came my guardian angel. I depend on you for my financial needs, especially my year-end taxes...and so do both of my grown boys.
Thank you for all you do...so selflessly. God bless you, the wife and those precious little children. Armen Keuilian

p.s. You were an outstanding teacher, as well. The students loved you. I hated to see you go, but am happy where you are.

Thanks Bob. Time does fly by quickly, doesn't it?

I'm happy to hear that you both are also doing well. It sounds like you are definitely keeping yourselves busy while you're "retired."

I hope that you, Betty, and your family have a wonderful 2011.

Hey Brian, 6 years, it seems like yesterday that you were at El Rancho. It was good to read your story. You clearly have recognised a need and filled it.Betty and I are both retired but I still teach 2 classes a day at ER and Jackie Vaca teaches the other 4. I also teach a night class at Point Loma colleges Downey HS location for SP ED teachers. Betty supervises Sp Ed teachers for point Loma as well.Since our church is in the process of filling our head pastor roll I get to preach about every 3 or 4 weeks so we R very busy. 2011 will be a challenging year for all of us. I pray yours will be filled with new opportunities and great blessings for you and your family. God bless you.

I agree. Something is better than nothing, but obviously most teachers spend far more than that in the classroom.

Keep in mind too, once you are able to itemize, you will be able to write-off more than $250 of unreimbursed classroom related expenses.
